The legal entity behind this site

The website at hans.study (the "Site") is owned and operated by Hans Study ("Hans Study", "we", "us", or "our"), an independent network and security consulting practice based in Ontario, Canada. The practice has previously operated under the trade names TSG and TSG Labs. Those are historical trade names of the same undertaking rather than separate legal entities, and any agreement referencing them continues unchanged with Hans Study. The legal counterparty for any matter relating to this Site, the published material, the tooling, or any commercial engagement originating from this Site is Hans Study, trading as a sole proprietorship.

What the site is

Hans Study publishes technical writing, reference material, and tooling related to enterprise networks, operational technology and industrial control system security, physical security systems, and Genetec Security Center. Content reflects the practitioner's perspective and field experience of Hans Study.

What the site is not

The content is informational. It is not engineering certification, regulatory advice, or a substitute for an engagement scoped to your specific environment. Nothing on this Site creates a consulting relationship between Hans Study and a reader. A consulting engagement requires a separate written agreement.

Use of generated configurations and audit findings

The configuration generators and audit tooling on the Site produce starting templates and pattern-based observations. They are not a substitute for review by a qualified engineer with direct knowledge of the specific environment. Every configuration produced by the tooling must be reviewed, tested, and validated against your environment before being deployed to production. Audit findings are pattern-based and may contain false positives or fail to detect issues that pattern matching cannot identify. Treat them as a starting point, not a finished assessment.

No warranty

The Site and all generated outputs are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Hans Study is not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising from use of the Site, the generated configurations, or the audit findings, even if advised of the possibility of such damages.

Intellectual property

All articles, written content, diagrams, audio and video material, and tooling on this Site are © Hans Study unless otherwise noted. Linking to and referencing articles is permitted and encouraged. Republishing full articles without prior written permission is not permitted. Configuration text generated by the tooling is released for use in your own deployments without restriction.

Vendor neutrality

Hans Study takes no commissions, holds no margin on anything specified, and has no equipment for sale. Any product mentioned by name on this Site is mentioned because it is relevant to the technical discussion, not because compensation is tied to that product. The full independence policy sets out what is and is not done here, in specifics.

Acceptable use

• Do not submit configuration text containing live credentials, secrets, or sensitive customer information that you do not have authority to share. Sanitize before pasting.
• Do not use the audit tooling for unauthorized assessment of systems you do not own or do not have written permission to test.
• Do not abuse the contact, notify, audit, or any other form on the Site to send unsolicited communications, run automated scrapers, or attempt to overwhelm the Site or its underlying services.

Third-party services

The Site uses Cloudflare for hosting and DDoS protection, Cloudflare Turnstile for bot mitigation on submission forms, Resend for outbound email delivery, and Google Tag Manager (which may load Google Analytics 4). Use of those services is governed by the respective service provider's terms. The privacy implications of those services are described in the Privacy Policy.

Changes

These Terms may be updated. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the Site after a revision constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada applicable in Ontario, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or use of the Site is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Ontario, Canada.
