Reviews
Independent reviews grounded in the field rather than a spec sheet. Field tools and gear I actually use, how real installations hold up, and which equipment earns a place in a deployment. No reseller agreements, no margin, no vendor sitting behind the verdict.
A review is only worth reading if the person writing it has nothing to sell. I don't carry reseller agreements or take margin on equipment, so a recommendation here is a recommendation, not a quote in disguise. Every product review carries a spec sheet, dated pricing, and a plain read on what the vendor claims versus what I found in the field.
Field tools and gear
Rack-A-Tiers StingRay: The Drop-Ceiling Tool Low-Voltage People Should Already Own
Snaps into a T-bar ceiling grid and gives you a frictionless chase that protects the cable jacket and the tiles. If you pull network, security, or low-voltage cable over occupied space, this one's aimed at you.
Rack-A-TiersRack-A-Tiers Wire Vortex: A Green Plastic Ring That Replaces a Second Body
A slip-on guide for the junction box that turns a two-person feed-and-pull into a solo job and stops the box lip from skinning your jacket. Dumb, cheap, and it works.
Rack-A-TiersRack-A-Tiers 2.0 and the Racky Clamp: The Ugly Tool You'll Defend to Anyone
A two-piece plastic wire dispenser that's also a sawhorse, a pipe vise, and a workbench. It looks like nothing and earns its spot in the van anyway.
Rack-A-TiersRackstuds Series II and Duo: 10 Years In, Still the First Thing I Reach For
A decade of using these across more rack builds than I can count. Half the price of the metal competition, easier to get, and they hold my gear without drama. Not indestructible, but I'm the one who broke them.
RackstudsOngoing series
Rate the Install →
A recurring series reviewing the installation quality of real-world physical security, network, and infrastructure deployments. Cabling, mounting, racks, weatherization, labelling, the things that quietly decide whether a system holds up.
Recommended Products →
Vendor-agnostic recommendations across video management, access control, cameras, switching, and firewalls. Based on years of field experience, not a price list. No reseller agreements, no margin.
